CBD Oil Strength Explained: How to Choose the Right Concentration
Share
What Do the Numbers on CBD Oil Actually Mean?
When you browse CBD oils, you’ll see numbers like 600mg, 900mg, or 1200mg on the label. These figures refer to the total amount of CBD in the entire bottle — not per serving. Understanding this is the first step to choosing the right strength for your needs.
How to Calculate Your Dose Per Drop
Most CBD oils come in a 10ml bottle with approximately 200 drops. To find out how much CBD is in each drop, use this simple formula:
CBD per drop = Total CBD (mg) ÷ 200
For example:
- A 600mg oil contains approximately 3mg of CBD per drop
- A 900mg oil contains approximately 4.5mg of CBD per drop
- A 1200mg oil contains approximately 6mg of CBD per drop
So if you take 4 drops of a 900mg oil, you’re taking roughly 18mg of CBD — a solid starting dose for most beginners.
Comparing Our CBD Oil Strengths
At Northern Lights CBD, we stock a range of strengths to suit every stage of your CBD journey:
Lower Strength — Ideal for Beginners
Our entry-level oils are perfect if you’re new to CBD or prefer a gentle, everyday dose. They give you the flexibility to start low and build up gradually without any guesswork. A lower-strength oil is also a cost-effective way to find your baseline dose before committing to a higher concentration.
Higher Strength — For More Targeted Support
Our higher-strength oils are suited to those who have already found their baseline dose and want a more concentrated option. A higher-strength oil means fewer drops per dose, making it more economical over time. It’s also a popular choice for those who prefer a smaller volume of oil per serving.
Which Strength Is Right for You?
| Strength | Best For |
|---|---|
| Lower (e.g. 6%) | Beginners, mild everyday support, fine-tuning your dose |
| Higher (e.g. 9%) | Experienced users, more targeted support, prefer fewer drops |
As a general guide: if you’re brand new to CBD, start with a lower-strength oil and a dose of 10–25mg per day. Once you know how your body responds, you can decide whether to increase your dose or step up to a higher strength.
Does Higher Strength Mean Better Results?
Not necessarily. The right strength is the one that meets your personal needs at an effective dose. Someone on a lower dose may get exactly what they need from a lower-strength oil, while someone requiring 50–75mg per day will find a higher-strength oil more efficient and economical.
